From $40 to $940, Behold Fall's Most Heavenly Sweaters

Marc by Marc Jacobs, a label that caters to
cool girls with old souls, adds a sequined corsage to a sweater already
glimmering with beads. And yet the effect is still oddly effortless.
($298 at Nordstrom.)

A boxy, spotty crewneck is the ideal pairing for a jewel-toned skirt or pair of honeysuckle-colored jeans. ($58 at Nasty Gal.) Photo: Nasty Gal
-
A wool/alpaca/polymide yarn bomb, this Pelican Avenue pullover is for sweater die-hards only. Wear it as a dress or with a narrow midiskirt or leggings as tight as this top is muscular. ($421 at Creatures of Comfort.) Photo: Creatures of Comfort

Ringing in at almost a grand, this Carven sweater is a huge investment. But if you’ve got the cash to burn, it would be wise (well, fun at least) to put it toward this French label with a growing-by-the-minute following. ($940 at Far Fetch.) Photo: Far Fetch
-
Jil Sander? Nope, Old Navy. Here, the low-priced chain tries its hand at the colorblocking craze. ($36.94 at Old Navy.) Photo: Old Navy
-
If your version of winter white is more of an ecru, this alpaca/linen toggled dream by Anchor Ernst has got your name knit all over it. ($195 at AllSaints.) Photo: AllSaints
-
Capes can stay indoors, according to this black-trimmed merino piece. Throw it on with anything from a pair of ’70s flares to a long, long prairie dress. ($158.40 at J. Crew.) Photo: J. Crew

Summer’s sailor stripes transition into fall via this lightweight cap-sleeved top by Theme. The knit textile says autumn, but the lateral openings hint at endless summer. ($69 at Piperlime.) Photo: Piperlime

According to street style blogs, the cropped, drapey sweater is essential this fall. Wear one over a sleek midi-dress for slouchy perfection. ($54 at Urban Outfitters.) Photo: Urban Outfitters

Sweaters are always a big hit in
the cooler months, but this season, they've replaced the bomber jacket
as the most ubiquitous cover-up. They're huge this year, and we mean
that in both senses of the word. Drapey cashmere is all over the
blogosphere even as knits as thick as phone books can be spotted at
scenester bars across the country.
Above, we bring you 30 of our favorites — from a pricey, painterly
specimen by a cult French label to a colorblocked surprise that retails
for under $40.
