Backstage at New York Fashion Week, CND's Jan Arnold Reveals Next Season's Colors
Platinum-haired and wrapped in
Dries van Noten, Jan Arnold is the co-founder and style director of
S.D.’s own CND, which makes major waves every season with nail
colors for fashion’s boldfaced
designers. She’s also — pardon the pun — hands down one of the most
high-fashion individuals living in San Diego today.
A resident of Del Mar (favorite shop: Gerhard),
Arnold was backstage at a long list of shows at this month’s New York
Fashion Week; CND did the nail colors at cool-girl labels 3.1 Phillip
Lim and Milly, red carpet fixtures Monique Lhuillier and Naeem Khan, and
fashionably raucous hot ticket The Blonds, just to name a few.
It’s the company’s 15th anniversary of painting on clamored-for colors
at fashion presentations. Here, Arnold fills us in on the new,
rising-star designers that CND has partnered with, and talks about the
“anything goes” spirit of ’40s-inspired spitfire Karen Walker. Who got a
“murky mustard” and what models wore high-tech, transparent,
lace-covered nails?
