Paris Fashion Week Diary, Part 2: Neon Ball Skirts at Jason Wu, Black Lace at Viktor & Rolf
"We started off jetting over to a quaint
little hotel where Jason Wu was showing his craft," says Noel. "A lovely
New Yorker named John showed us the line while others piled inside
waiting for a turn. Their model was stuck in the Metro so I had the
pleasure of trying on some lovely pieces." Here, Noel moves fast as
others were grabbing.

"We started after a sleepless night," says Amy Noel. "Among other things, there was a woman yelling all night long outside our window!" Here, Noel, looking radiant nonetheless, sets out for the day outside her inn of choice, the First Hotel in the 15th arrondissement. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

"I think he's fresh and a very approachable designer," says Noel of Jason Wu. "It's a little more affordable than the likes of Viktor & Rolf, and can go younger or older, but is still very pretty and has great craftsmanship." Above, Wu's boundary-pushing ball skirts for spring. "I need a formal to go to!" adds Noel. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

"After Margiela and Rick [Owens], today was a very feminine, ladylike day," writes Noel. Above, ultra-femme clutches by Jason Wu. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

Writing orders on the patio at Jason Wu. "I think they will all [Jason Wu, Margiela, Rick Owens, Viktor & Rolf] work at Suite 102 as most woman have duality to them," Noel says. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

"I found this while looking for coins," says Noel of this letter from her daughters. "I'm keeping close to my girls while I'm away." Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

A peek of Rag & Bone. Noel says she may not order from the Spring/Summer '12 line, noting that "it was not close to as good as the fall order...but there are some staple pieces that will mix well with our other collections." Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

Noel, an interior designer, is also on the hunt for chic domestic objets for Suite 102. A favorite of hers from Maison Martin Margiela's Line 13 collection of housewares was "a cloth calendar that turns out to be 12 great napkins at the end of the year." Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

Then it was on to Viktor & Rolf. "This line made me want to be a girl! Oh, yeah — I am a girl!" cracks Noel. "I need places to go and people to see in these pieces. I want my daughters to have these pieces. [Designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren's] inspiration was modern-day Barbie. They are so talented; the fabrics are amazing and perfectly executed." "One of my favorite pieces of the day," Noel says of this Viktor & Rolf coat. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

At Viktor & Rolf: "This is a short cocktail dress with a sheer mermaid-like piece attached," writes Noel. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

At Viktor & Rolf, a key trend for Spring/Summer 2012: mesh. So get ready. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

"Then to the hotel for a fast change," says Noel, "and our first dinner on the town." Above, the sexily dark hallway of First Hotel. Photo: Courtesy of Amy Noel

The last time we checked in on Suite 102 owner and creative director Amy Noel, she was guiding us through the dark delights of Maison Martin Margiela and Rick Owens.
In Part Two of her Paris Fashion Week Diary, it’s all about the
ladylike lightness of Jason Wu and the dreaminess of Viktor & Rolf,
whose pieces will also be populating the shop when it relocates to a
new, larger location.
Above, Noel tells us why Wu works for all ages and shows us a major black lace extravaganza from the Dutch duo.
